Thank you for your interest in our quail hunting experience. Recently, in an effort to build on the 35 year tradition, Sykes Place Plantation became a member of BlackHorse Properties, LLC. In so doing, the privately owned BlackHorse Lodge is available for upscale meals and overnight accommodations. Additionally, a BlackHorse property, Sloan’s Run, provides another superior quail hunting habitat.

Guided quail hunts are available from October 1 to March 31. Half day hunts are offered daily at 8:00am and 1:30pm. Dogs are provided if you do not have your own. Anchor Covey Release Systems have been in use for the last eight years to ensure great hunting.

Full and half-day packages are available. A typical hunt starts around 8:30 am. Hunters are carried to the field where they spend the morning hunting Bobwhite Quail in at least 7-10 coveys with 20-50 birds in each covey. Around noon, it’s back to the lodge for a hearty southern style meal. Our afternoon hunt runs from 1:30 to 5:00 pm, and are held in a different section of the property with different coveys and the same large numbers. Each of our fully equipped hunting buggies can accommodate six guests with drinks and dogs. If you’d like to bring your own Cameron trained dogs for the hunt, we have kennels available. We can accommodate all hunters of all ages, keeping you fresh for a full day of hunting. Our experienced hunting guides are family, with a heart for the sport and dedicated to providing hunters with a memorable experience to last a lifetime.

Chukar Ranch is a world class, guided bird hunting experience unlike no other. All guests licenses are provided. Our habitat is designed over planted corn specifically for the upland bird hunter. Chukar Ranch is a 115 acres located in Cullman County, Alabama, minutes from Smith Lake. A Former corn and soy bean farm is now an upland hunter's dream. Standing corn covers some 70 acres of the ranch which gives excellent cover and hunting opportunities. Nice rolling fields, easy walking, and the use of an ATV makes it even better. We like to use Chukar's with our Quail to create the ultimate bird hunt. We can Also Add Pheasant's to any hunt.

Oak Ridge Lodge quail hunts start around 8:30 a.m. after hunters are treated to a large country breakfast. After breakfast, we offer hunters a chance to "warm up" on our skeet shooting course. Here you can sharpen your reaction times to prepare for the fun and excitement during your Quail Hunt. Half Day and Full Day Quail Hunts. Quail hunts last for about 3 hours per half a day hunt and around 7 hours for a day hunt. On a typical quail hunt a group of hunters will travel by a custom buggy, pulled by a jeep equipped with everything needed for a day in the field. Quail Hunting Conditions and Cover. We will hunt a variety of terrains and cover, and travel across hundreds of acres in a days hunt. Dogs are provided and worked by your professional guide. Our Quail hunts include a seasoned guide and outstanding dogs for your day afield. At both our properties, we utilize early release Quail programs as well as an aggressive management of habitat for wild Quail. We prefer over and under shotguns on our quail hunts of 20 gauge and smaller with #7.5 or #8 shot. On our pheasant shoots either a 12 gauge or 20 gauge of any configuration is welcome and we recommend #4 or #5 shot
